Indra Nooyi Biography: India-born Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi is a senior business executive and currently the PepsiCo president and chief executive officer.  

PepsiCo is the second-largest company in the world, engaged in the food and beverage business. Her name continued for many years in the ‘Influential Women of the World’ list of the famous magazine Forbes. In 2014, she was ranked 14th on this list by Forbes. 

In addition, she is a Successor Fellow at Yale Corporation, a Level B Director of the Board of Directors of the New York Federal Reserve, a member of the Board of Catalyst and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi was born on 28 October 1955 in a Tamil family in the city of Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. Her father worked in ‘State Bank of Hyderabad’, and his grandfather was a district judge. Nooyi’s early education took place at Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Madras. 

After grabbing her master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata (IIM Kolkata), Indra Nooyi started her career in India with Johnson & Johnson and served the company as a product manager. He also worked with the textile firm ‘Matter Birdsell’. After this, Indra enrolled in the famous Yale University in America in 1978, from where she studied Public and Private Management.

While studying at Yale University, she also did a summer internship at Booz Allen Hamilton. In 1980, she completed her management studies at Yale. Forbes ranked her third in the ‘Most Influential Women’ list in 2008 and thirteenth in 2014. In 2009 and 2010, Fortune magazine ranked first in ‘Most Influential Women in Business. In October 2010, Fortune magazine ranked her sixth in its list of ‘Influential Women in the World’.

Almost all of Indra Nooyi’s strategies to take PepsiCo forward have been successful, and all of her plans have found investors.

Nooyi is a ‘Successor Fellow’ at Yale Corporation. She is a member of the founding boards of the World Economic Forum, the International Rescue Committee (Catalyst) and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Eisenhower Fellowships and has also served on the US-India Business Council. She is also the Honorary Co-Chair of the World Justice Project.
